A teacher affects eternity; he can never tell where his influence stops.

Hello fellow Cowboys! My name is Ms. Angelina Walker and I will be the 6th grade Language Arts and Geography teacher for this school year. I am so excited to be a West Leadership Acadamey Cowboy, and cannot wait to share my excitement and enthusiasm for teaching and learning with you. This is my sixth year of teaching. Previously, I taught 4th grade for two years, middle school science, social studies, and English Language Development for a year, and 4th/5th grade Humanities and ELD, and high school English. Prior to moving to West Leadership Academy, I taught at Fletcher Elementary, Fletcher Intermediate Science and Technology School, and at the Vista PEAK Campus. I am so excited to be your teacher and start off in a brand new school! This school will be truly innovative!
I started my school career when I was about 3 years old. I went to Watch Care Day Care and Kindergarten. I then went to St. Catherine's and stayed there from 1st through 8th grade. I graduated from East High School in Denver in 2001, and graduated from the University of Colorado, Denver with my bachelor's degree in Elementary Education in 2006. I graduated from the University of Colorado, Denver with my Master's degree in Linguistically Diverse Education in 2009. I finished working on my Administrator's License this past summer and am currently working on my Doctorate degree from the University of Denver.
I have a son. His name is Jayden Patrick Anderson and he was born on January 1, 2010. I love him with my whole heart and he is my world. Everyday I learn something new about him and I love that!
I decided that I wanted to become a teacher when I was about 3 years old. I always knew that I wanted to become a teacher and that
teaching was my passion. I also know that I have a passion for English, literature and social justice. I love to examine past and current societal
issues, as well as learn and teach about them.
You all are probably wondering why I decided to move to West Leadership Academy. Well, there are several reasons why I chose to move to
here. Well, I felt in my heart that this school would provide the educational experience (21st century learning) that was necessary for students to be truly educated in this society. Through my experiences, I have realized that the road of life is difficult at times, and when those difficult times arrive, we must be prepared to and have the knowledge to conquer these challenges. I feel that WLA understands that and will use that knowledge to better our community of learners.
I also realized that much of what WLA believes and is offering is what I feel 21st century students, teachers, and parents need to know in order to succeed. As a parent and teacher, I realize the importance of changing our outdated views of education in order to educate successful, contributing members of society in this day and age. Students need to be successful so that they are successful later in life. Knowing that WLA offers real-world, relevant, college-ready and innovative teaching excites me, as I know it will excite my learners.
Finally, it is my belief that great teachers affect eternity. The other teachers and staff here are amazing and our students are the BEST...hence, I am among the BEST OF THE BEST!
I am extremely excited to be your teacher this school year. We will examine past and contemporary issues that arise in Language Arts and Geography. I look forward to learning from you, as you learn from me!
Love,
Ms. Walker
